Should the tip be based on the amount before or after the coupon? The coupon in question reduces the bill by about 40%.How should you tip when using a coupon at a restaurant with table service?
Tip according to the regular amount of the meal, and be happy with the little bonus that the coupon brought you. Your server will pay income tax on his/her tips at the end of the year, and that's calculated on the regular selling price of the food. Shorting your tip means your server will pay taxes on income they never received.
Another way to look at it is that the restaurant issued the coupon, not the server. Now if you had a coupon from Linda The Waitress offering 40% off your next tip when she waited on you, that would be a different story! ;-)How should you tip when using a coupon at a restaurant with table service?
you should absolutley tip from the price BEFORE. Without the coupon youd be paying full price. Honestly people need to stop being so cheap. I don't understand why some tip what the bill is afterwards.
Tip before the coupon. You are already saving money; don't short the server.
Before, because if you didn't have the coupon you would be paying full price. The server didn't have less work because you had a coupon.
tip for the pre coupon total.. this also goes for happy hour discounts..
I tip on quality and do not consider the meal cost.
The tip should be based on the full value of the meal (cost before coupon).
If you are happy with the service then tip twelve and a half per cent of the real (pre-coupon) cost of the meal..or one eighth of real price..ie. 拢1.25p for every 拢10..unless it is a really expensive meal when you should adjust the tip to a reasonable sum..if not very happy then halve the tip and if the service is just downright bad, do not tip and do not go back.
